Welcome! We are celebrating 60 Years of Serving the Arts Community
The Washington Art Association--a not-for-profit organization run principally by volunteers-- was established in 1952 by a group of local artists who were seeking ways to nurture creative life in and around Litchfield County. Their goals were to promote greater understanding and appreciation of art, and to encourage and facilitate the study, creation, and exhibition of art.
The high caliber of exhibitions for which the Washington Art Association is known was established early on, with celebrated artists such as Alexander Calder, Andre Masson and Yves Tanguy participating in early shows.
Since its founding, the Washington Art Association has staged more than 450 exhibitions, which have showcased the work of both emerging and established artists from all over the world. Our exhibits attract more than 10,000 visitors per year, drawing people from both near and far.
